I've been busy being out of town, making up time at work, and partying like it's 1986, so much to the point that I still haven't made any updates since returning from Seattle. Until now!
First, a quick look at the freshly-opened Terminal 2 at SFO...

looks like Terminal 2 will house a mini-museum of rotating exhibits featuring heirlooms of America.

For anyone interested, the flight from SFO to Sea-Tac is just under 2 hours, about twice the time it takes to get to LAX.
Arrived to see a very green (as in covered in greenery,) eco-conscious (as in positive reinforcement for recycling and bicycling abound,) and huge city. Not everyone
is fenced in by water can fit neatly into a box 7 miles by 7 miles. Regardless of the quirks of Seattle, I knew that I had just one mission in this city: to support my friend Gambrinus and attend her graduation ceremony where she would collect her Master's in Social Work from the University of Washington! Very important, since her family wasn't able to attend due to the US's visa requirements towards our friendly South American neighbors.
Okay, so along with friend Calimocho from LA, the three of us were perfectly fine with straying from attending all of the ceremonies in the name of a little fun.
A few oddities...
|
quite a few vegan cafes and shops around University Way...
this pizza pi was just across the street from Gambrinus's apartment. |
|
not sure if this place qualifies as a real restaurant... we never stepped foot inside but Gambrinus says they lure you in with free vegetarian food and then read the Bible. Sounds suspiciously cult-y to me. |
|
not vegetarian or vegan, but this nerd HQ was definitely worth taking a picture.
See the open door? There were card-wielding virgins inside! |
After Gambrinus treated us to some Peruvian home cooking...

ají de gallina |

I could eat this forever! |
... we all took a jaunt over to campus...
|
UW's beautiful new hall for their law school |
|
a leafy thoroughfare on campus |
|
the library |
|
the upturned obelisk on what I presume is the main plaza,
traditionally where hundreds of undergrads try to press flyers into your hands |
|
the three unknown towers... none of us could figure out why they were there! |
You can see that the sky is gray but the clouds are nothing like the blanket of fog so prevalent in San Francisco. And just as I predicted, it wasn't very cold.
A few more notables along University Way...

Someone had sponsored unique sculptures to adorn the lampposts along the main drag for students. One of my favorites: Reaching Through Time |

an awesome tiger/T-rex hybrid |

A big fat YES to retro gaming!
See Starfox? |
