salon de mamá

Brought some beouf bourguignon over to Mom's yesterday to share. Ended up staying much later than I thought and making a big change.

I've been considering lightening my hair for a while in order to bring out the curls. My hair is super-dark brown, from afar it looks black, and dark curls aren't too easy to distinguish from a mass of dark hair. Now that I've learned how to tame my locks, I want to show off the curls... I mean, if I can show up to work with luxurious-feeling waves 4 out of 5 days in a week, I'd like it to show them off.

Aiming for a red-brown, just like one of my favorite bloggers, the always-gorgeous Nadia from Portugal.

First the essentials for any at-home salon project:

1. hair color
2. freshly washed and towel-dried hair... that's right, free of frizz-fighters, my hair is CRAZY
3. a bucket of fried chicken, 16 pieces for $9.99 at Safeway!
4. margaritas!
5. a happy cat lounging somewhere
Oops, it turns out you're not supposed to wash your hair before using this particular hair coloring kit...

Anyways, my mom and I have similar hair texture and color. As an at-home coloring expert, she recommended that we leave the color on for 45 minutes instead of 20. She also skipped the pre-treatment serum in the box, but I trust my mom!

The hair around my face and crown turned out considerably lighter, almost coppery, than the back but you know what? I like it!

Love my new look... it really looks like it has warmed up my face. Thanks Mumsy!
